Who Do You Know?

Here's wishing you all a wonderful Independence Day weekend! Not Fourth of July. Dana's rule and since she served our country, I'm gonna call it that.

My dad fought in the Korean War, my uncle died in WWII, my great grandfather was in the calvary in the Civil War. And I am so grateful to all of them.

Who do you know that has served or is serving our country? Let's thank them!

My daddy served in the Korean War, as did my step-father. Both of my ex's were in the Army, and both were in Desert Storm, and my second husband retired from the Special Forces. There is no telling how many countries that man was in.

I, too, was in the military but I did serve my whole term because I got pregnant.

Happy Independence Day!

My Dad served in WWII on the U.S.S. Allegan, a cargo ship. Yesterday I was going through an old box of photos and found the 1944 Christmas Party menu for the U.S.S. Allegan's.

I also have 2 cousins that served in Vietnam.

I'm such a pain in the ass, aren't I? I did an informal pole at work today - asked about 10 co-workers if they knew WHY it was called Independence Day. Want to take any guesses as to how many knew? ONE!

I worry about this country sometimes ...

On which side did your great-grandfather fight? If the South, then happy explosives day to you too. Otherwise, go home, yankee. :p

I always think of my grandfather who was a POW. I think I'll be giving him a call this weekend. Thanks for the reminder.

My father-in-law served in WWII and he lost a younger brother in Vietnam. And my brother-in-law and his son both served in Desert Storm.

Thanks to them, and to all our brave soldiers.

Inmy mothers side great great grandfather...fought in the mexican revolution...when he was 15 years old. He was a Texan and adventurer with green eyes. My Grandfather was in the Spanish American War (he lost friends on the Maine), my father crossed the beach from the Atlantic into North Africa (he was 34 with wife and son), my aunt Clair was in Japan, Korea and Germany and I served during Vietnam. Seems to be the family thing.

Published too soon.

But today isn't the day to remember Vets, try the Declaration, the Constitution and the Founding Fathers (no not the Christian ones, there weren't many).

Veterans remember on Memorial Day, preferably the real one, and Veteran's Day, properly Armistice Day. Be silent for a minute at 11 AM. And know why.

Don't shop.

Amen!

I totally wanted to shoot a pic of me doing that but I don't have the lucious flowing blonde locks she has.

My dog does though. See pic on my blog.

My uncle and stepdad were Vietnam but not in actual combat. So I'm always thankful.

p.s. as a photog-junkie, i could not help but notice that BLONDIE has the flag on backwards but that's just me. hee-hee.
