Act Your Age, Not Your Shoe Size

Backstory: Mandy is one of my best friends. If you'd told me a few years ago that my best friend would be a butch girl with a faux hawk, I'd have laughed myself silly. I'm a girly girl. I like lipstick and pedicures. She's butch. She likes hockey and video games.

And SO....
Last weekend, we head up to my family's lodge. It's a big ol' place and I invited a bunch of girls, but only the four of us could go. Me, my love, Mandy and Becky.

As soon as we plan the trip, Mandy says, "I'll borrow somebody's Nintendo Wii and we'll take Rock Band and play games all weekend." I roll my eyes and began planning other things. I don't DO games.

On Saturday, we get back to the lodge from the day trip to Muddy Pond. Mandy proceeds to take out a drum set, microphone, and guitars from this big ol' bag. Ahhh crap. Seriously, Mandy? Now I have to remember all that musical stuff I learned taking piano lessons against my will for umpteen years?

Mandy insists that I at least try. On the guitar. I die within about 20 notes. She assures me that I'll do better on the drums. I make it. I don't die. It's actually kinda fun.

We rock all night Saturday. Get up Sunday morning, cook breakfast and start playing. Wash the sheets. Rock out some more. Fold towels. Continue rocking. We played every song on the game and would have played more if we had an internet connection.

I'm a 43 year old Rock Star and I just asked my mom for a Wii for my birthday.

I just got a Wii when I got my tax return. Once you've played it, it's hard not to want one. One by one, as my friends come over and play, they decide they want one too... Nintendo is taking over the universe. Seriously.

I am terrible at video games and even less musically inclined so I haven't ever tried this game. I do hear about it a lot and they, like you, love it. I hope you get one for your birthday! Hey, it's things like this that keep us young!

Why not? Never give up toys! Any kind of toy. :)

Rock Star! you go girlie-girl but be careful or next thing you know you'll be joining the Wii bowling league. Those things are fun but for me right now, I'll stick to my ipod touch.

I love Guitar Hero.

Most of my Wii experiences have involved drunkenly tripping over other drunken friends - I think that's a good thing.

Where can I buy tickets to your first concert?

Sounds like great fun! Rock on wit' yer bad self!

I refuse to even try a Wii. I have enough things that take up a lot of time already. If I got a Wii nobody would hear from me for days on end.

No Wii, no game consoles at all!
I've just got TOO many other things to do that I like to do...

Lol
Well hope you get a Wii then!

I played Rock Band while I was visiting my family recently - it was a scream. Three little girls between the ages of 6 and 8, and three adult wimmin, sitting around screeching "ROOOOXANNNNEEEE"...
It is addictive, isn't it?!

I'm the opposite...I ask my parents for grandmother-y gifts like a home canning kit, Kitchen Aid attachments, and a no-skid cutting board :(.

Yes thats my fear too that I would be addicted to it. What fun though and isnt it great when you think you are going to hate something that you actually love it and have fun. I think we all need more fun in our lives so I hope your Mom comes good with the Wii for your birthday.

Gina said...

I love it too! Did you try singing? That's my addiction.

BlondeBlogger said...

I want a Wii, but I don't think it's in my short-term future. Probably just as well -- it would definitely impact my blog cruising.

If you find time, I'd love it if you'd read today's post over at the Chronicles and provide feedback.

My recreation time has always leaned toward the mindless effort of finding joy... If I have to think, I avoid it!

Thanks for stopping by over at my place. I've always enjoyed your comments on other blogs and it's about time I got my ass over here.

It is truly an addictive pleasure, isn't it? I mean, I actually play the bass, have for about 35 years now, and I thought, "Oh, this will be silly and I'll breeze it." It was just FUN.

U go girl! I love rockin' out on both rock band and guitar hero.... It's a secret obsession of mine. Well, not really secret anymore...but it is fun. Glad you decided to "do" a game and give it a try..it is a good time

Jessica said...

Oh yeah! Isn't it just so fun! I love the drums tood. \m/

The wii is awesome. All of us (ages 5-41) have fun with it.

My son has all the Guitar Hero and Rock Band stuff.
One night me and hubs plugged in, him on drums me on guitar. If anyone came in and saw us they would have immediately left to go buy us helmets. We were seriously flailing around, thinking we had some rhythm. But it was FUN!!!
I still play occasionally but keep it on EASY level. LOL

HAVE FUN!!

I have not owned a video game in years (my son owned them and I would sometimes play but not often)...but I really think I want a Wii...

yes I do

That's wild cuz I just played that for the first time last weekend.

Angel said...

oh HOney.....welcome to To Rock Band!!!! I play with my boys all the time, (i;m the singer!) and we have a BLAST!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I for one, have ALWAYS thought that you ROCK! Now you have the proof. My boys will borrow a friends guitar hero every now and then for the xbox and Dad has to jump in for a few songs. I suck...but I try. Playing those games has nothing to do with musical talent but more with hand eye coordination, so those of you with no musical talent have nothing to fear. Those of US who have neither musical talent nor hand-eye coordination...different story. Rock on babe!!

They do say that once you play it, you can get easily hooked.
