The Soundtrack of My Youth

I find it sad that the same media that tried to crucify Michael Jackson and portray him as a pedophile is now raising him up as the King of Pop.

For some reason, that just makes me hate the media even more.

I never believed the rumors that he was a pedophile. Perhaps he had me fooled, but he always seemed to me like a child trapped in a man's body. And that child just wanted to hang out with other children. Odd? Yes, but not criminal.

I'm about 7 years younger than Michael Jackson. His music was the soundtrack of my youth. He was a mega-star during my high school days. Every song stirs a memory. I had no idea until this morning, when I was walking and watching his videos on MTV, how much his music ran along side my life. Song after song after song. He truly was an amazing talent.

Yep, couldn't agree more. It's like part of your childhood has passed. Truly sad. Think about it though...there are people on the other side of this planet that feel the same way. How crazy is that?

I'm with you. He was a bit odd but very talented.

The media truly sucks. They make you an idol when you're good, crucify ya in a heart beat and then fall all over themselves when you die.

Just. For. The. Ratings.

The media. I have no kind words for them.

I never believed the horrible things said about him either. I think you said it beautifully when you said he was a child trapped in a mans body. We all have internal things we fight. His justhad to be fought in the spotlight. I only hope he has finally found the peace and love he so long sought.

Beautiful post, Sugar.

I remember so much of my teen years was spent jamming to MJ..and my best friend and I would watch MTV constantly just to see the Thriller video so we could practice our zombie moves..lol

The first song that made me fall for him was "Rock With You" from his Off the Wall album. My friend Susie and I would sit in her room, reading her sister's 17 magazine and I would sit and read the liner notes on the album...I'm really sad his life turned into such a punchline and I feel so sorry for those children...

I worry about his 3 children.
Where are they going to go?
I heard his $$ was low due to excessive law suits.
They should be set for life but I am not sure so?????

I'm glad the media is focused on the good rather than the bad. they did enough damage in his lifetime.

I think Michael has always been misunderstood. I love him. I love his dancing. I love his music. Thanks for posting this.

I'm 2 years younger than Michael Jackson. He was the music of my youth also. Our generation lost 2 great icons this week. Kind of makes you feel really old suddenly, doesn't it? It does me, anyway.

I've decided to ignore the media stories. I've been reading some of the remembrances from friends of his, and the thoughts of his fans.

He was such a transformative talent.

I agree. I hadn't heard him referred to as the King of Pop in YEARS and now it's everywhere.

I drove to work hearing Thriller, Billie Jean and Rock With You and every song brought back a wonderful memory.

I said the same thing to a few people who were calling him a freak and a pedophile this morning...he was a big kid, one who missed out on his childhood. I don't believe he was a monster.

You raise a very true and interesting point about how the media is portraying him.

I like to remember him as he was in the Thriller album.... the only article about him in the tabloids was: "Michael Jackson's hair caught fire during the taping of a Pepsi commercial".

I never believed he was a pedophile either. I heard the taped phone conversation the dad had about getting money for "this" whether they found it to be true or not. It was all a lie. I have always loved Michael's music, and his child-like quality.

The only other thing I can is, at least he has found peace.

I grew up with MJ. He was only a couple years older than me. And you're right. He was a talent of genius proportions. I could never get enough of watching him dance.

Like you, I tend to believe (I definately WANT to believe) he was merely naive and childlike rather than dangerous, but I'm not so sure. I just know that a healthy grown man, attached or unattached, doesn't invite boys over, and doesn't even think about climbing into bed with them. At a minimum, he was modeling behavior as plausible that which shouldn't be condoned for any child. Wish it didn't have to be that way.

i so agree with you. too many people are trashing a very lonely, hurting soul. what goes around, comes around.
