Touch Me Right There

The other day on the beach, all of us lesbians were talking about that Oprah show where Dr. Laura Berman told everybody to let teenage girls have vibrators.

Yeah, THAT got everyone's attention.

I just don't get it. Little boys get to play with themselves because their equipment is more conducive to doing so. But because our equipment is more hidden, we shouldn't? Or it's not polite? Or what? WTF?

What's wrong with a teenage girl having a vibrator? How will she ever know how to have someone else please her if she can't learn to please herself?

Frankly, I think that's what's wrong with a damn lotta women. I've been around.

Entirely too many of us have never had an orgasm. Don't touch ourselves. Don't know how to enjoy sex. Just don't get the *feel good* part of it.

Loosen the hell up, people. It's just an orgasm. At least, she won't get pregnant.

yeah!
if ONLY i had a vibrator... and if only i had been brought up not feeling the guilt associated with masturbation, i probably wouldn't have left my room for the duration of my high school career...

ah well, making up for lost time now, aren't i?! lol

I agree, guys always have it so easy. How did Oprah respond to that?

Damn, this post just made me love you more.

You said it so perfectly, I will just say I couldn't agree more.

If it feels good do it. Or for some of us, if it feels good, do it till it hurts. *snort*

Have a great day, beautiful.

Do most girls not masturbate? I remember doing it from being about 11 years old - though I don't think my parents knew. :)

I agree completely....aren't we past the point of thinking masturbation is dirty?? And like you said...no possible pregnancies.

again, its a matter of people freakin out because tradition says women are supposed to be sexually pure and its going to be a man that awakens everything inside her that she's been yearning for all of her daisy-picking life..... God forbid you put the power in her hands and remind her that she's the only one who can unlock that fire inside. And by that I mean true feminine mystique, not the plastic, surgery induced kind of blowup dolls we see everywhere on tv. They're manmade bots. Disgusting.

LOL LOL

You are so funny. My friend's daughter, at the age of 14, asked her mother to buy her a vibrator. After her mother woke up, she agreed, and she got her one. That's all that was ever said about it.

I would just die if my daughter asked for one, but then I would wake up and get her one. I mean, having an orgasm is the BEST thing in the world, and I have one whenever I can. Thank God for that massager shower head.

I would probably not start her out with a vibrator but definetly want her to explore herself with her fingers first. I would want her to learn more about touch. If she is younger having sex, hands is usually how things start.. But around 18, I am all about her having one, or a going to college gift.

remember years ago when the Spencer gift catalog came out and the women were shown holding their "facial massagers" next to their cheeks?

I couldn't agree more, and I just love how that show at least got people talking. My girlfriend with kids told me that she might talk to her daughter about sex and masturbation in HIGH SCHOOL. I almost died! High school?

Great post : )

gosh, my cg just asked for me to get her her own "toy box". she had known for years that we had a place that we kept our items. so i did with it well stocked in fun items.

As a mom, I think I would die if my daughter asked for one. But, I would probably do it after I recovered from shock. I was brought up thinking it was wrong, but doing it anyway. I loved our shower head and my electric tooth brush handle.

I think it is insane for me to be tolerant and supportive even of my sons doing whatever to themselves, but to discourage my girls. Girls need to explore just as much as boys. And the fact they are doing it with a vibrator, without risk of STD or pregnancy, is a huge + in my book.

My mother was of the belief that all masturbation was a sin. I'm with you, though. I know some teenaged Asian-American bloggers who could probably use a nice vibrator. Also, I'm sure Miss Manners would agree that the proper thank you note from a teenaged girl who receives a vibrator from a random guy blogger would be to send him pictures of the gift in use. If anyone objects to my generosity, I'll send them to you.

I believe it would help many girls, but I will let the women decide this issue

Wow - this is so well written. I applaud you for bringing it up. There is definitely still a stigma about females and masturbation, while it's openly discussed and joked about and actually expected for guys (to do it).

I'm with Bond. The reason some don't have them is because they have fathers living at their house and couldn't stand the thought of their little doing that.

Just keepin it real.

Did they talk about it like it was a bad thing??

All you ladies out there who have never had an orgasm, if there is anything I can do to help just let me know. And if any of you need assistance in operating your vibrator, I am an expert there, too. Just don’t try to get oral with one…it can knock your teeth loose. Ho! I also give free breast exams.

I got my kid one when she was 14 or so. Seemed like the right thing to do.

I saw that show and the only thing I question is the age. I think you have to know your child. I'd be a happier person today if I didn't have it drilled into me as being a bad thing.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me - that said, I've never had one, but worked the whole lot out with fingers, etc...

I'll just say I agree with you and move on.

Amen.

I'd offer my services to those who would want a coach, but I'm sure my wife wouldn't be too happy with me!

Great post RLL!

Since I can't even talk about underwear without blushing, I think I'm just going to let this one go right on by....

I totally agree.

Considering sex was for marriage and for the purpose of procreation, vibrators were not a big topic of conversation in our house. I think about how my life might have been different if I hadn't grown up with such a sexually repressed parent, even tho I love her dearly. Thank God for Oprah making folks talk about things like this. People can snark about t.v. all they want - but there are SOME good things that have come about because of it. And of course, there is the internet and people like you who aren't afraid to talk about issues like this. Big applause to you from me. :)

I can just imagine what my mother's reaction would have been if I'd asked her for a vibrator. She couldn't say hemorrhoid without blushing.

Fortunately, I am much more open-minded than she was!

Dana said...

Well, my mom didn't buy me one, so I found hers *wink*

Newbo said...

I completely agree with you! I didn't use a vibrator till i was 18, but i used other means! i started young lol, always been a horny one. Female masturbation still seems to be taboo even though it's very obvious that a lot of women do and we're being encouraged to do so even more. I think it's essential, if you can't please yourself, how is anyone else going to manage?

AMEN! Think how many teenage pregnancies would be prevented.
I was like a spelunker exploring caves and crevices at an early age. But had I been given a vibrator? OH MY!

Lu' said...

Little boys play with theirs because heaven forbid they leave it the hell alone ha!

Anyhoodle female fondling makes the heart grow fonder, of ones self :) Nothing wrong with that.

Bridget_Herself said...

THANK YOU! Remember when Clinton's Surgeon General was ousted for advocating masturbation as a viable way of preventing teen pregnancy? *sigh* We'd be so much happier as a county if we'd been founded by Pagans looking for religious freedom rather than Puritans doing the same.
