Apparently, Everyone Cares....

about my hair. Odd, I know. Because at 6:30am when I'm trying to make it look like something that belongs on my head, I'm all alone. Where are all the people that care about my hair then?

Over a couple of pitchers of margaritas last Saturday night, the conversation turned to...you guessed it, my hair.

Everyone agreed that I shouldn't get another perm. I should go back to more blonde. Let it go straight and what? What then? Who's going to be there to help me at 6:30am EVERY morning when it won't curl? Who's going to listen to me cry when it refuses to behave?

Yeah, that's who I thought.

I'm on my way to the salon right now, because I'm addicted to perms and the 80s.

My experience with hair is that everyone likes it when you do something different. All the people I knew when my hair was long said it looked awesome short, all the people who knew it short loved the pictures of it long. Do what you want to do...it is YOUR hair after all!

Do whatever you have to do to make 6:30AM easier for you.

You are gonna look HOT no matter what you do with it, so do what is easiest for you.

I say this because I care...Only women over the age 70 can pull off the perm in 2009. I know it stinks. My hair is fine and pin-straight. But you have to just make it work. It is all about a good cut.

Perms are bad. Very very bad. I have naturally curly hair and think it is horrible. What I wouldn't give to have straight hair. And you, you Missy, ruin your hair with...with....PERMS! That is just wrong.

you are GORGEOUS RLL no matter what you do with your hair, or even if it is stuck into a Yankees cap.....

So you are addicted to the eighties, RLL. I was a seventies person. The seventies show came out. I am no longer addicted to the seventies, just embarrassed. I hope for your sake that there is no eighties show.

Yeah, hair advice is all well and good, but you gotta do what works best for you. You've looked pretty in every picture I've ever seen of you - so you must be doing something right. :)

Yep, the hair! I just cut mine short. I decided that low-maintenance was going to be in for a while. I know it grows back so I just went with it.
I have received so many good comments, shocking to me. So right now the hair matter till I am bored and the compliments disappear....lol

My hair is naturally wavy, but you'd never be able to tell. I spend way too much time straightening it, at least until it grows out long enough not to look silly.

Now go get that perm if that's what you want!

I call perms the P word and it was agreed upon a long time ago by hubby and I that I would not get any more of the P word. They are always wrong and then, you've got it, I bitch and bitch about it. I have decided once again to let my hair grow because I am tired of incompetant people cutting my hair and I am too chicken to give myself a buzz cut even though I think that would be heaven. Oy hair! So grow it I shall and revert back to the ponytail. A 51 year old woman with a ponytail. Actually by the time I can put it in a ponytail I'll be 52 Lord willing.

I asked my stylist to come live with me but his partner wouldn't let him. :(

good luck with that -- my last perm was in the late 70's... poodle head.

never again.

Haha! What matters is how you like it and what makes you happy. And it getting along well with you at 6:30 am is awfully important. LOL

I cut 6" off my hair at Christmas and my husband likes to (gently) remind me how much he liked my long hair. And I like to (not so gently) remind him how EASY my hair is to style and how when he's rushing me out the door I can make it out almost 30min faster! Doh.

Great post! All good points. And, really, who doesn't love the 80's? If one does not, then they must be dead inside. . .

It's difficult to try a new style but it's the best lift you can give yourself, once you've gotten used to doing it yourself that is!;)

There's a lot to be said for "wash and wear" hair.
