Reunited And It Feels So Good!

Two weeks ago, Trace Jeanell tore her ACL and damaged the cartilage in her knee. The doc told us, just like in humans it doesn't matter when you have the surgery. That's why we ALL went to the beach to romp and play a bit before 5 months of recovery for her. A little last minute fun was in order.

I took her in yesterday and was told that I could pick her up on Thursday. I'm not good at leaving her. Trace is diabetic and has been for almost four years. Two years longer than the lifespan given to diabetic dogs. I've been on three vacations without her in those fo
ur years. I rarely trust other people with her care.

That's why I flipped out when they wanted to keep her for three days. I don't trust vets or anyone else with my little girl.

Yesterday, Dr. Beckman called me and told me that he thought that I should pick her up today. I wonder if he saw my neurotic diabetic diary that I keep of her glucos
e levels, times, dates, activities, etc.? He felt that she'd be better off in my care since they rarely deal with diabetics.

This morning at 10am, we were reunited. It feels so good to have her home!

One of the girls at the clinic decorated her E-collar. How cute is that?!

Cool - you got your doggie a megaphone. Does it amplify her barks?

I also took better care of / worried more about my dog than I did myself.

Trace has been a diabetic for much longer than me. Does she have any survival tips? Can I still have all the Milkbones I want, or do I have to switch to those disgusting unflavored rawhide treats?

She must have been recovering well for the vet to let her home early, I hope she continues to do well. I'll send her some Reiki. x

Hope for a speedy recovery for Trace.

And I'm impressed that your vet actually admitted that Trace would be better off in your care.

It's always hard to leave them, isn't it? Glad she's back with you, and man, it looks like you took her to a great office - I can't believe the care shown by the collar alone!

we never go anywhere without the sunny dog because we just dont trust her in anyone else's care too. Well, we did go to Canada to get married without her, but that was just that one time...and she still gives us the stink eye over it.

I'm glad Trace is home and I hope she's feeling much, much better very soon!

Sunny wants to send Trace some of her Sunny Dog Snacks, she thinks they'll help her ACL feel better...email me.

Glad she is home. we just went through this with my Davis. my chihuahua. he is still not allowed off a leash to run. it is a chore to keep him calm and still. the fun begins but i too was glad to have him home to care for.

i've worked at several vet clinics and seen many acl repair surgeries and i'm surprised they considered keeping her for so long. i think once animals are stable, they are better off being at home b/c they are with their owners/in their comfort zone to heal. glad she got to come home a day early!

I so know exactly how you feel. When Sweet Pea had her second surgery, I had to leave her 3 nights. It was the first time in almost 12 years we were apart. She always travels with me.

I am sure Trace was elated to be back with Mama! Sending lots of prayers and good thoughts for a quick recovery.

Now go scoot and give her a big hug. Go on...whatcha still here reading for? Give her one from me and Pea too!
