Put Your Head Between My Legs

Actually, between your legs will do.

We recently had a conversation at work about when the moon looks really big. My uncle piped up, "That's just an illusion."

Am I the only one that didn't know? Did I miss that day in 5th grade?

"The moon really isn't bigger when it's low on the horizon. It's always the same distance.
It just looks bigger because of the objects surrounding it." He spouts.

I *knew* that. I just never THOUGHT about it.

Next time you see a Harvest Moon, bend over and view it with your head between your legs to change your perspective. It will totally ruin it for you. Totally.

I know, because I did it last night on my way home from the gym. I actually got out of the car and flipped my head down and looked like an idiot in the subdivision. Hey... I had to know before I could tell you!

Read more about it here, here or here.

Honey, if I put my head between my legs I'd go dizzy and fall over! :0

I thought the harvest moon was in the fall and it was called the harvest moon because the light helped farmer work later at night to get their harvests in.

Now I have to go look THAT up! LOL

I re-added you to my reader and I'm getting them now.

Real Live, you mooned the moon?

I am with Bina and found this on wikipedia: The Harvest Moon is said to come before or after the autumnal equinox. It is simply the full moon closest to that equinox. About once every four years it occurs in October (in the northern hemisphere), depending on the cycles of the moon. Currently, the latest the Harvest Moon can occur is on October 13. Between 1900 and 2010 the Harvest Moon falls on October 7 in 1930, 1949, 1987, 2006, and on October 8 in 1911.

Not sure what moon you mooned, but it was not the Harvest Moon...now are you embarrassed you mooned the wrong moon?

Ok, so I've told this to all seven of my neighbors and tonight, we're going to give it a try. Of course, we might end up on the evening news!
BTW, your hair is fabulous. Don't change a thing!

It's tough getting caught up with blogging when the rest of the world doesn't cease while I'm sick. Bloody inconsiderate people.

Picturing you stopping to do this put a big smile on my face. I will have to try this myself!

hi sweetie: Yep it's twuuuuu. If you look at the full mon as it's rising it looks bigger because of the surroundings. take your ruler and measure it...top to bottom. Then later on when the moon has climbed and looks smaller ...put that ruler up to it and measure it again...it's the same size...always. hehehe.

The moon is actually leaving the orbit of the earth...a little each year...less than a inch. It's will be a millions or more years before it is off on it's own.

The seas/oceans move constantly because of the gravitational pull of the moon.

I should shut up huh?

okay...and where should I put my head again? Between your legs? :D

Ciao sweetie.

It also looks bigger when right on the horizon due to diffusion. Really.

I'm glad i don't have to put my head between your legs. My neck is not that long.

I always thought that you put your head between your legs if you felt sick or had motion sickness. Never would I have guessed to put it there to look at the moon. . .

Isn't it fascinating that something that's been a human question ever since there were humans, and looks like it would have a simple and straightforward explanation is still causing head scratching among the scientists?

That made me smile. I have a thing for the moon. Never understood why. Never bothered to learn why. I just love the moon. Got a good moon for me? LOL

How appropriate that I use the comments on a post about the moon to signal the nightfall of my blogging career. I want you to know that I've enjoyed your blog and think you are one hell of a lady. Those that know you in real life are truly blessed. I wish you and your lady all the best as you march on through life. Please take care of yourself and may God bless you.

So you gotta moon someone to really SEE the moon, huh? ;)

I, uh, must be the only person who never noticed the moon looking any bigger. I've heard people say that before - but I just don't see it. It always just looks like the moon to me.

I love that picture though - that gorgeous orange color.

I know you are in Nashville (I think) but wanted to make sure you were okay. Have you seen the pictures of the tornado in Murphreesboro??? Man oh man!

compulsively yours...for now said...

i would love for you to see the sun setting or the moon here in the nevada desert. there are times it looks like it has tripled in size. when i lived in utah it looked so much smaller and i was so shocked to hear it was common knowledge (the illusion)

it is due to the lack of mountains and trees in the sky here in the desert.

so now i know it can even change (or appear to) size based on where i live.

I missed that part in Science class too. But if I put my head between my legs, I'd get stuck there. I'll take your word for it.
Still....I like to live in denial and am going to pretend it is just a magical, moonlit night.
