I Rescued A Human Today

Trace relaxing on the bow of the boat last Summer.

Many of you know that I have two fur-babies, Isaac and Trace. I cannot tell you the immeasurable joy that they bring me. They make me smile and laugh every day. If you need a little love in your life, visit your local shelter. Perhaps, you need rescuing?

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY
by Janine Allen

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someones life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her.
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate
for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor.
So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Trace and Isaac kissing. AGAIN.

We got both of our kitties (Tessa and Gizmo) from a no-kill shelter. They have been wonderful companions.

Beautiful dogs. I am just not a pet person, but it I was, I would totally get a rescue.

Oh I love this post!

We are total furry children people -- two dogs and four cats, all but one rescued.

Our latest, Edward (Edweird) the beagle, was a foster dog of ours that I couldn't part with.

Your babies are gorgeous!

You sure hit a soft spot in this old mans heart, with that story from Janine. As a dog lover, I know the power of a dogs love. It's imeasureable and can easily turn a life around.

Two beautiful dogs!

That was beautiful. My pup Monster is a rescue and we are in the process of looking for another dog. Either from a rescue or the SPCA. Hopefully we will have another member to our family before Christmas.

This is precious!

My dog Dixie rescued me back in 2006 and I've been happy ever since.

One of our puppies (Dumdum aka Toby the half German shepherd/half husky/all wuss) was given to us by a man who had a yard full of dogs. This man's dogs ate better than he did so we were very proud that he trusted us with one of his babies. He's not the brightest dogs but he's sweet and we love him.

Furbabies rock. My daughter calls them her brother and sister. Awwwww!

When our cat Samantha passed at 14yrs we went looking for a companion for Maxine, also 14. We took Isabelle just as a woman was about to walk into the local shelter to surrender her, she was 12 weeks old. Maxine passed at 18 yrs and Isabelle is now 9, We purchaaed her companion Angelina from a pet store in 2003. We really want to get a dog but I am affraid to upset the girls.

All but my last two dogs (the bullies) were shelter, stray, or rescue dogs. They definitely bring joy to your life -- but you have to put in the time, too, for training, exercise, and lots of love!

Peace - D

Being a rescuer of many cats and dogs I can attest that they will change your life for the better and, well words fail me. I get very emotional about the furbabies!

That was very nice, and in a sweet and believeable doggie voice. :-)

I save twenty to thirty dogs and puppies every month by transporting them to no-kill shelters in NY and NJ. I know and understand why there is so much euthanasia in the animal kingdom, but it is good to save a few and make some family happy. I also believe that they know they are being given a second chance and that is why they make such good pets.
