Life After 40

I recently told someone that life after 40 is so much better.... on her 40th birthday, only to have one of her friends question me.

What could possibly be GOOD about getting older?

I can think of about 1,000 things.

I don't put up with much bullshit any more.

I don't care if you're a millionaire. I care if you can carry on a conversation. I care if you are kind.

If you're a mean girl, get the hell away from me. I have no time for you and your two-faced, backstabbing BFFs. There are too many wonderful women in the world for me to bother with you.

Other 40 year olds *get* you.

Sex is so. much. more. amazing!

For those of you over 40, do you agree/ disagree and why? This is an essay question.

The sex is great. For me at least. I can't believe I get better each year. It almost seems impossible.

I agree. Turning forty was an awesome thing for me. I'm in good company for sure.

I have always looked at it, considering the alternative, I'd rather get older.

YES! Absolutely! Couldn't agree more! 100%!

I've often thought about writing a post on this topic but you've said everything I would have, and more succinctly. BRAVO!

Ok I am still young, but all my best friends are hitting 40 or close to it this year. I always joke I was born in the wrong decade. I enjoy being around older people for that exact reason.

I think you're absolutely right. I turned 40 four months ago and I'm more comfortable with myself, totally happy with my life, fully trusting of my friends, at peace with my past... and oh yeah: the sex.

I completely agree. And for some reason, once you get into your 40's, younger women (not a lot younger, 5-7 years), seem to find those of us getting closer to the big 50 fascinating. (Or maybe that's just my experience. lol!)

My teens ROCKED!
My 20's SUCKED!
My 30's ROCKED!
My 40's (up til 10/19/09) also ROCKED!

I'm only 1/2 way through my 40's but (except for right now, lol!) I'm enjoying them.

The sex thing... YEHA!!

Conversation. Man that is what attracts me to someone. That and intellect, literacy, kindness. I could give a flying fig if they're handsome or rich.

My life has run the gamut in the 7 years since I turned 40. I was then unhappily married to my second husband, but happy with my 17-year old son. Divorced, bought my own house, got happy happy happy, cried my eyes out when my son went to bootcamp, and harder when he was deployed to Iraq. Found my voice, started an NFP, and made a difference to a few in the world. In the interim met Mr. Right, moved into his house and rented out mine. Lost father to diabetes, sister to cancer, and am losing mother to Alzheimer's. It's been wonderful and its been awful, and there was no other decade in my life that I could have faced this. Strong enough to stand up to it, and smart enough to unapologetially scream for help when I couldn't.

And 4+ decades of building an army that stepped up for the tough times, and celebrated the victories.

I love 40s.

There's your essay. Oh, and I rock in bed.

I don't think I've had sex since I was 40, so I'll have to trust you on that one.

I'm now closer to 50 than I am to 40, and I must say that I am looking forward o hitting the half-century mark!

I completely agree with everything you wrote.. including, yes, the sex.

There is a sense of freedom that comes with turning 40 that just wasn't there before.

I love it!

I absolutely agree. Things just seem to get better. And we get bolder!

Not willing to put up with the bullshit any longer and you're right... mean girls gotta GO.

As long as you're healthy, things do seem to improve after 40. You just don't really give a shit about the drama and want to enjoy what's good, fun and amazing!
