Peter

"It's a perfect place! Look at all of the vegetables and fruit that grow RIGHT HERE! Cantaloupe, strawberries, yellow squash, zucchini, swiss chard. It'll be like living right next door to the grocery!" Mrs. Bunny exclaimed.

Trust me, she was wrong.

Isaac, our white dog, loves bunnies. He used to have a bunny brother when he lived in Georgia. And he will always love bunnies.

Sunday afternoon, we were walking around the garden and Isaac had what I thought was a frog. Just a few inches long and a dark color. When we went over to take it from him, it was a tiny, baby bunny.

Great. Now we have to find where she made her nest. Because you know there are more babies somewhere!

I told my love that if I were a bunny-mom, I'd make my house right by the garden. Lots of great stuff to eat there. And sure enough, that's where we found two more tiny babies.

We stuffed them back down in their hole and put up a little fence for them. Here's hoping she comes back soon. She should have considered the neighbors.

Aw that's so sweet! I'm glad you found the bunny's home and put it back for Mum. Did you check if Mum came back?

Hopefully momma will be back and realize that those real big things that walk on their hind legs helped keep her babies safe...

Great real estate tip. Just because you find a place to live in a nice neighborhood, doesn't mean that the neighborhood you have next door is safe. ;-)

Kudos to you for doing your best to not mess with nature in this case! Too many people would have tried to "help" and even bigger kudos to your dog! Most would have ate the poor little thing!

My brother was weed-wacking some property some months back and found 2 babies sans a mom (he thinks she ran from the noise). He took them back the next day and found the nest. Mom still wasn't there but I hope they found her.

I used to have an American Bulldog who found baby bunnies to be a delicacy. Once I found him savoring a bunny head. Traumatic would be an understatement. I hope your baby bunny fairs better.

oh my!!!! Poor bunnies, their only defenses are
1) running fast or
2) making lots more bunnies

I used to know someone on AOL board who did rehab and she would always put up notes in her sig when it was bunny time. That if you find a nest and think it is aboandoned it is not as they only feed twice a day. Once in morning and once in night in case you don't see momma.

So cute though!

Aww, soo tiny! and cute! A couple months ago we found several baby bunnies being threatened by snakes .. we relocated them. I read that the momma bunny will come looking for her lost babies after the sun sets. And sure enough, by morning, the bunnies were gone. I see a few teenage looking bunnies hopping around and I believe they're my little foundlings.

We have the same story where we live. Sadly, our dog loves the young bunnies for their taste, not their friendship.

We were having many little bunnys hopping around the yard until Coop the hawk made residence nearby. I wouldn't shoot the bird any more than I'd shoot the bunnys. Nature can be mean.
