Bullet Dodged

This morning when I took Trace and Isaac out for the morning constitutional, I was in a hurry. I was already plying them with promises of treat-treats if they hurried with their business.

As they walked out into the little front yard, I spied her...or him. I'm not sure which one it was, but I think it was a girl one. A turkey. Alone. Wandering in the driveway.

Shit. Shit. Shit.

I do NOT have time to chase these fur-children all over creation while they are chasing a turkey.

I kept up with the hurry-hurries and you'll get a treat-treat. And they did. They hurried right back in to the house without ever seeing the Thanksgiving Dinner that walked just 15 feet away from them. Oh the fun that was missed by them!

I still can't believe they didn't notice her. Who knows if I'll be this lucky next time we encounter a ....what do they call a girl turkey?

*** I *do* know that the turkeys pictured are Toms and ours wasn't that large or at least her tail wasn't all poofy. And it's not my pic, just a lovely one that I found on photobucket.com.

Being a fellow dog lover, I can completely appreciate this near miss and how hugely fortunate it was that the rots missed the turks.

Seriously. I am in awe!

I was getting ready to compliment you on the picture (it's a nice one)...but now I'll just compliment you on the post. What DO they call a female turkey???

I guess that's what you get for living in a log cabin - turkeys and rabbits in the yard. You better work on getting that fence installed because I remember very vividly how Trace loves poultry! :)

I consulted "the oracle" (Google) and buffalodickdy is right - A female turkey is a hen. How boring is that?

Isaac the bunny slayer/porn king (sorry, I don't mean to be cruel) turned up his nose at white meat?

Hmmmm...

WOW - those be some BIG suckers!!! I love turkeys though, we have wild ones that come preen their young in our yard in the fall and drive my dog to salivate through the window watching. ;)

Oh wow! That was a close call...I know how the sunn-dog gets when she sees a deer; we have to spell that word in the house or she'll knock the curtains down trying to get out to chaise the one she thinks is out there...sounds like you've got wild kingdom going on out there!

For your sake I'm so glad they missed the turkey!

Now that's the time you should have let them loose!! At least a turkey would have been a worthwhile kill. I'd have been so proud of him! You really should put more thought into these hunting trips in the front yard. The boy scouts say: Be prepared!

I just had a run in with two wild turkeys and my pal, the Little Dog... (she isn't that little anymore..) - I was super lucky she had zero clue as to what they were and it was pretty random to see them on the busy street we were jogging on...

As for bunnies, not even interested.. squirrels a huge passion and target for hunting activities....

I have to say this part of non-city living is pretty entertaining...

Ok this is just too funny for me. You worry about turkey's and I have to worry about stray dogs messing with my pup! lol

Where do you live that you have wild turkeys roaming around? Because I want to make sure to NEVER EVER GO THERE! I detest birds, really I do. They are freaky. Especially geese. Those are some mean SOB's.

Dropping by from Rick Rockwell's site. I love your adventures with your furbabies.

I have a bunch of children and a husband but our stories are more similar than different.
