Guess Who?

Yeah, I know her face is washed out...but it's Pat Benatar!!!! I gave my girl tickets for her birthday to her concert at the Wildhorse on Tuesday night. A concert on a school night? Crazy, I know.

We arrived at 6pm and walked up to a line that was several hundred people long. As we were standing in front of McFadden's Pub, one of their waiters came out trying to hustle folks inside.

Him: Why wait in line when we have cold beer and A/C?
Crowd: Silence as they're obviously entranced by Pat Benatar's ultimate appearance. She's supposed to go on at 7pm according to the folks at the Wildhorse. Yeah right.

Him: Cold Beer for much cheaper than Wildhorse and you can eat dinner while everyone else is waiting in line!
Crowd: Crickets

Me to my girl: Aw, come on...let's go in! Give the guy a break! It might be fun!
Her: No. I'm not missing Pat.
Me: We're not gonna miss her. She won't be on for a long, long time!
Her: No....shaking her head.

We start chatting with the two girls in front of us. I have an idea.

Me: Hey...Mr. McFadden's guy...Come 'ere a minute.
Guy: Yeah?
Me: What will you give us if all four of us come in for dinner? Make us an offer.
Guy: How about a round of shots?
Us: Hell yeah!

Crowd: Hey, ya'll were too easy! You should've held out!
Us: Laughing as we walk inside to drink cold beer and have a great time as everyone else waits in line just to get into the Wildhorse. Dorks.

We got a free round of Strawberry Cheesecake shots with the manager and we'll always be the two lesbians in the pic with the married mothers at McFaddens that got everybody free drinks!

I loved stepping out of the crowd. Losing my place to go do something unplanned.

When was the last time you broke out of the crowd?

I would have sold out at the words cold beer. Good for you for getting a free shot out of it!

Since I turned 40 and became old and grumpy I don't wait in lines. I would have been inside drinking beer and having something to eat without even being asked. LOL

You go girl. I love to see people break out of the crowd. This sounds like fun...take me with you all next time...I love Tennessee. Did I spell that right...anyway. Pat B is one of my faves...plus my ex boss (promoted) loved her and always had a cd of her playing in his office...isn't that cool.

Ciao babes.

Cripes...I wish I could remember!

What I do remember is a handful of years ago, we saw Pat, Neil and their band for free at a racetrack/casino here. Outdoor show, amazing voice (still!!), and one of the best nights! I so love her! Look (and sounds like!) you had a great time!

Being a NYer it's dangerous to get out of line! You might never get in, out, over, around ...

BUT I have been known to create line parties. One time at a club in Brooklyn we asked the pizza guy across the street if we could take a couple of his chairs and a table - they were little plastic things - we bought a few pizzas and some drinks and had a line waiting party.

I love Pat!

when he was a kid my son used to do a great imitation of her singing "Harden My Heart" to make me laugh.

Dianne said...

Oh and I know Pat didn't do that song but my son thought she did - it's become such family folklore that I forget to explain!

I pretty much make an effort not to go with the crowd. It would probably be easier for me to say the last time I joined a crowd. I've see Pat in her hey day. Thanks for the reminder

You saw Pat! $!%&$@^&*@ she better be coming to Seattle too!

I'm pea green with envy.

I went thru the 10 items or less check out line last week with 12 items - does that count for breaking out of the crowd?

Yeah, life here is exciting.

Since I pushed out the third little hellion I am, unfortunately, too damn tired to break out of the crowd. Who am I kidding? I am not even in the crowd. I am sittinga t home watchingt he crowd on the TV. Ha. And reading about it on other people's blogs.

Pat Benetar! I LOVE her! But that's kind of depressing that she's playing bars now. She deserves to rock the stadiums. Or at least the state fair.

Hmmm...breaking out of the crowd? probably when I farted on the elevator by accident the other day. Not the most triumphant bit of individualism that I've experienced lately, however.

oh my gosh I LOVE Pat Benatar. I met her once while in college and though she was so cool too

Hmmmm, I guess I should clarify...

The Wildhorse isn't exactly a "bar," more like a small concert hall. It holds a couple thousand folks and hosts a ton of cool folks like Richard Marx, Ace Frehley and Gladys Knight (which I'll also be attending!)

So, she hasn't fallen to bar singing. And yeah, she rocked the house!

I *heart* Pat Benatar! "Hell is for Children" was (and still is) one of my all time favorite songs!

Broke out of the crowd? Oh my! Stranger danger!! Although I'm starting to find out that the world doesn't end just because spontaneity occurs *wink*

One of my best friends is a fan of hers and has kept up with her career, thus far. Him and I have been to numerous Pat concerts over the past 10 years. She gives a great concert.

Hmmm, well I take notions I guess. Depending on my mood.

I love Pat Benetar! Bet that rocked!

Strawberry cheesecake shots?! Are the bars open before 10 in the morning on a Friday?

Mmmm. Strawberry Cheesecake shots! Why are my incentives never so good? The last time someone tried to bribe me with something it was a cheese cracker... Just one.

Hmmm. . . .here's how much I've been living under a rock - I didn't even know that Pat Benatar was on tour.

I would have left a line for a shot too. I'm easy like that!

Hope it was fun!

MYM said...

Yeah, I'm not a lose my place in line kinda gal, so I admire that ;)

Would love to see Pat Benatar ... that's a flashback.

RLL, that experience, just the raw spontaneity of it, is a tiny piece of perfection in life. You did indeed rock!! As for Pat B. I'm glad to hear she's back at it. She had a lot of issues with exhaustion on tour years back and I think that's why she fell off the radar. Plus she's like 2 feet tall and has amazing lungs!

Way Cool!

I try and avoid being a part of the crowd in the first place!

I ADORE Pat! (and you)

Fortune Cookies said...

it's not the crowd...it's the humidity! or um, something like that. Good for you for breaking away from the pack! Sounds like a blast. I always had a bit of a crush on Pat...and I say she's still kinda hot.

I want me one of those strawberry cheesecake shots. What's in one?

I had to sit in the second row at The Dark Knight today cause I didn't even show up in time to stand in the line.

Wow, I saw Pat Benatar in concert 28 years ago! I'm old! She's older! I'll bet it was awesome though.

KellyKline said...

I think I was at Wildhorse on the same night, but probably too early for Pat. It was for a work function ... and they made us wear cowboy hats and bandanas. And not in the fun, spanky way.

gawd,...I SO wanna hang out with YOU!!

I've seen her three times now -- first in 1983 in a large coliseum, again in '96 at a large amphitheater (from the front row) and most recently in '06 at House of Blues in Myrtle Beach (the only thing that could drag me to that soul-sucking pit of despair).

So I recognized the photo right away (I have one just like it on my phone from HOB).

But I couldn't pull off this escapade. You're a pistol...
