Define "Friend" **** Updated with REAL pic of Claire

I had been working out for about a year when Claire's husband started working out at the gym. Now folks, this is a tiny gym. About 10 people work out there. We all know each other. Most of these athletes are elite class. Ok, everyone but me. Shortly after her husband started showing results, she joined us.

Claire (from yesterday's post) was already in great shape compared to the average woman. But in the last year and a half, she has seriously put the work in to have a fabulous body. She went on Weight Watchers to learn how to eat a balanced diet. She's cut her carbs. She works out every day. Yoga, pilates, cardio, weights. She is disciplined beyond what my mind can comprehend.

Claire does ask me other advice. Like, what are my thoughts on a bikini made of candy? Was it clever enough to get noticed at a Playboy shoot? Her straps were twizzlers and she made the entire bikini out of candies. I told her that I'd just dip my boobs in honey and then in sprinkles. But hey, I'm a simple girl.

Claire is pretty, in great shape...and get this... she's sweet. She tells me when she sees that I've lost weight in a certain area. She gives me tips that have helped her lose weight. And she remembers my birthday.

Last October, she was all smiles when I walked into the gym. "Happy Birthday!" I didn't even know she knew when it was. I certainly didn't know hers. As I was leaving, totally wiped out from the workout, she stood arms outstretched, a cake box in hand.

Filled with four small cakes. Bigger than petit fours. Smaller than a real cake. Square. Perfetly decorated. One Chocolate. One Red Velvet. One Strawberry. One White.

Claire didn't know what flavor was my favorite, so she bought me four. All for me. To take home. Alone.

So, are we friends?

Wow... I'd say so. And holy crap... look at that picture!

I love your bikini idea. It worked well for the chick in the picture.

Anyway, I would say your are friends. Maybe not close friends but she obviously likes you and wants to see you happy. I would call that a friend.

Some people are just good and us hard hearts don't understand it or trust it. What does she really want? That type of thing. Or maybe she is lonesome and is trying too hard to make a friend. Either way, she sounds like a cool person and not so full of herself. Enjoy the companionship - and all four cakes.

Friendship is a funny thing - it comes in many flavors - kind of like your birthday cakes!

I have friends (very few) that I feel "safe" sharing intimate thoughts with, and then I have acquaintances (?) that I enjoy chatting with, but that I would never be so vulnerable with. It sounds like maybe Claire falls somewhere in that spectrum of friendship.

I'd say yes, you're friends...and she wants to be closer friends. And if yu don't want her, send her my way....I'll take her! Finding a woman who can be giving to another woman like that, and not ask for anything in return, is hard to find. Some women can be real bitches. ;)

Not in my book. She is an acquaintance. I am very stingey with the word friend; very stingey. If she were my friend I would undoubtedly know her birthday.

Karen said...

I think you are friends. I don't give acquaintances presents for their birthday. You are her friend even if she is not yours.

I think so,
some peoples insecurity might come out being very forward in seeking friendship.

I'm sorry, did you say something? Something about dipping your boobs in honey??

Hell, YES she's a friend! Based on yesterdiddy's post, it sounds like she might NEED one, too... I'd suggest you invite her over for cake, but I guess broccoli spears would probably work better??

BostonPobble said...

The English language is so limited. *sigh* I would call her a "gym friend" or a close acquaintance or even (in my verbose way) "a friend the way you become friends with people you like but don't know very well." More importantly, though, is the fact that there is a foundation here for real friendship. The question is ~ do you want to build on it or leave it where it is now?

oh sweetie, you put naughty ideas in my head with that fab pic.

As for your friend...I think she is so sweet. I heart her already.

ciao babes....have a fab day.

To quote an old bumper sticker:

Friends help you move,
True friends help you move bodies!

Seriously tho, a friend to me is one who I can share private things with, all else are just people who are different levels of acquaintances.

I do think it is nice that she is trying to be a friend.

g-man said...

I suspect that she thinks you are friends. How would you feel about calling her a friend? Would you invite her (and hubby) to dinner or over for a BBQ?

{in my best Yoda voice} If answers to those you can supply then your answer you shall have.

:)

First of all, that picture can be my friend. WOW!

Maybe it is just the skinnier girl trapped in me that thinks a friend wouldn't give you cake, especially at the gym.

But the fat girl in me says tell her my birthday is in November and I would love 4 cakes. She sounds nice, and it does seem that she finds you a to be a friend. I would also say that you have probably shown her kindness and based on your previous post-she can't get that from the one person who should be her friend-the husband. I think you have a gym friend, kind of like the 'work husband/wife' so many people have.

I would say that you are friends, but just in the beginning stages of friendship right now. Maybe moving from the beginning to the next stage. And it's entirely possible that she is just a really nice, thoughtful person. I've heard that those people do exist. ;-)

Dianne said...

I'd say friends - since I believe there are so many levels of friends, almost as many as there are people - which of course is why Im nuts!

As Jay said - she could just be very thoughtful. Or appreciative the kind things you say to her.

The previous post made me feel bad. I know far too many people - especially women - who let others determine their value.

I'd say she most definitely wants to be your friend. But friendship, that's quite a fickle thing...I'd call her a close acquaintance.
Unless that pic up there is Claire, then I'd hop to making her my BFF ASAP ;)

Anndi said...

I'd say that's really up to you, but she's shown you that she cares about you, your opinions and your feelings.

Which is more than some friends do on some days.

I would hope she would have given you something HEALTHY to eat. Call me negitive but a better friend would have thought of something else other than food to give to someone trying to loose weight...

Maybe not friends but FRIENDLY. She sounds like a sweet thoughtful woman. Which makes it doubly sad that she is so insecure and apparently married to a prick. Me thinks it would be right up your alley to find out when her birthday is and do something equally sweet. BTW, a bit of cake on a birthday is not insensitive to someone trying to lose weight, but offering a dieter sweets on a regular basis would be.

OK, the first picture made me want to be her, you know, "friend"...

This picture just makes me want her.

There - I said it.

Yah. I think y'all are friends. That was a sweet story!

I'm over from Tod's. I'd say that you're in the beginning stages of friendship. It's why we have different names for people, like in my case "blogger buddies." I feel like I know them, and like them--but I've never met most of them and we might not bond in real life. I think there are definite possibilities for friendship in your case, since she's reaching out to you.

oh...this is a new pic. Nice! She hot.

I can't wait to see that playboy issue. hehehe. I'm a perv, what can I say.

You must have a fab work outs with her around...I'm perspiring, I meam, I'm sweating already thinking about that. hehehe.

When at the gym a person sweats...they don't perspire and if you did that is not working out hard enough. You have to SWEAT! GRRRRR.

I had such a workout this morning...my legs burned and I'm sore but I didn't admit it to my radio celeb workout buddy. I sweat and she perspires though we work out the same...I hate her. hehehe. Nah...I love her. :)

ciao babe...glad you found such a wonderful friend.

She is hot. She has Benatar Hair. She Bakes! Be her friend! Why even fight it?

Freakazojd said...

I'm sorry, what? Boobs in honey? Sprinkles? Um...
I think she sounds lovely, and if you'd like to be friends I think you've definitely got the invitation out there from her end.

If you're even an ounce of what you are here on this blog in real life; then I would do everything in my power to be your friend too.

Good people attract most any/everyone. Can't hurt can it?

P.S. love your new casa!

um hi, I am um new.

all of that and you cant even tell a girl what fucking cake you ate first. Yes the story was sweet, yes she is your friend Yes you had me at petit four!

So...which one did you eat first and which one was the best. LOL.

Nice to meet you.

She is gorgeous, I love her hair too - very tough girl big hair but then she has such a sweet face

and a great body!

a pweson can't have too many friends can they? I think there are different levels of friendships. All are needed at some point in time. Yes??
Play boy?? You know, for some reason I didn't think women still had that ambition...hummm...different strokes I guess.

I just got back off holiday and have a lot of catching up to do.

Anyone who remembers your birthday is a nice person. Anyone who buys you four little cakes in assorted colours because she doesn't know your favourite is an angel. :)

Jeff B said...

From your last post and this one, I'd say she is a friend. Probably just looking for someone who cares about her as a person and not an object.

Janet said...

Wow! She seems pretty darn nice...

Ann said...

I think she is a gym-friend, unless you want to take it further. Once you go get lunch or take it off the playground, then I think it moves into friendship territory. But WOW, was that ever sweet and thoughtful. It may be her message that she wants/hopes to BE friends with you. :)

Bex said...

Oh man. A hot "friend" without benefits. Bummer! She does sound awesome, though. The thing with the cakes was so thoughtful.

Sounds like she might have married an ass though, eh? That sucks.

As for you, keep kicking butt at the gym! I've recently re-entered mine and I'm finally learning to love it. Have a great night!

Ser Infiel said...

Definitely friends. Keep her around; she's gorgeous and kind! I've got one of those in my room right now and she asked me to fuck her last night, but unfortunately she has morals and I'm in a relationship. =P

I love your posts! I'll be back for more. :)

There are so many different types of friends we have in our lives. But I definitely think you could define her as a friend (and that she's hitting on you as well, lolol).
