I'm So Much Better Than You Are

I don't know what has changed about me in the last year, but people who put down other people really annoy me. I mean REALLY annoy me. The whole, "I drive a Mercedes", "She's gained weight" or "I make six figures" turns me off.

Maybe I've surrounded myself with too many GOOD people and now the crappy ones stand out like sore thumbs.

I don't care if someone has gained weight in the last year. I don't care if you can afford summer homes in the Caribbean. I just don't care. If you have to tell me, it doesn't matter. Show me.

Pass something to someone who doesn't have what you have, expecting nothing in return. Spend your time with your old relatives instead of your friends. Give of yourself.

Do something that's hard on the inside.

I agree, and can I add to that list people who think their choice of clothing/movies/entertainment are so much more sophisticated than mine?

Ass-hats.

I to-tally agree!

A guy I know brags about his "money" but he's so cheap it's disgusting. My family and I have been affiliated with the March of Dimes since I was 9 months old. This guy actually asked me, "How much were you paid?" Uhh, nothing numbnut! It's a CHARITY!

People who have to brag about that kind of thing or put others down have feelings of low self-exteem.

I don't care for show offs, and I find Madonna very pretentious too - which is odd because she always speaks very highly of me....

Have a nice day, Boonsong

Having lived with one of those for the past 7 years, I've had far more exposure to that type of pretentious attitude than any one person should ever have to endure!

hat said, it just reinforces what really is important as clearly the things don't make these folks happy!

Hi this is unrelated but I need advice.

My brother told me he was gay a couple of days ago. He likes to wear dresses and has stolen some of my make up and clothes to fire his interests.

I do not know how to react and you are the person I thought of asking advice from.

Thank you! This is my mantra! I would rather be poor and surrounded by true people, than rich and "in with the in crowd" any day!!!

Oh and "munchkinland" I may be stepping on toes here and if so, Im sorry. But, just be there. Lend an ear and be open about your reservations and discomforts. In my experience, I ended up being much closer to the people in my life who were able to tell me the things about my coming out that made them uncomfortable than the people who just acted like everything was gravy! Thats my 2 cents :)

Munchkin: Crystal is right. The best thing to do is to be the supportive person in his life. This truly is a hard time for him. And frankly, you might be the only one that stands by him.

Both my mom and dad, at times, put people down...not terrible, just those little things you are talking about "Oh, wow, she's gained weight, huh?" and it drives. me. crazy!!

Way to put those type of people down! I'm with you - we're way better. Even if we have gained a little weight. :p

My son went to private school for elementary and I dealt with the "my shit doesn't stink" people for way too long. I would love to have millions of dollars to help people out, but I don't - however, I do have TIME to help out and I try to volunteer when I can.

I so agree with you.

I know. Life is too short. Doesn't really matter what kind of car you drive, but it does really matter how many lives you touch in a meaningful way. Hope you partner's mom is feeling stronger.

Our wedding pics finally arrived. Today. want to check them out?

Let me know if you can't access the blog. I changed permissions because I was just tired of my ex husband accessing the site. Just felt creepy.

Great post RLL.... Pay it Forward is something I always think about in situations.
My grandfather always said "Do not show me your house, your car, your bank account...show me your friends and I will know everything I need to about you"

I love this post. I wish more people resolved to do the same thing. This inspired me :)

Gina: It's one of my pet peeves. Who cares how much Oprah weighs?

Poyn....I can't get in!

Grant: I wondered who would do that to me. And actually I've lost weight in the last year, but thanks for not noticing!

ETW: I would love to have millions to spend doing good!

Ake: It's because I'm right, isn't it? :)

Vinny: I like your grandpa!

LSL: Go do something good, girl!

RL, your post was a great reminder of what we should value in life. I thought you might find this interesting as well:

I think it's so easy to find those good people in blogging - because you simply don't have that everyday "how do I look? what should I wear?" stuff going on. It must help to cut through the superficiality... surely?

Aw now wait a minute, I drive a Benz, and I may just be one of the nicest people I know....! In fact I have been so too-nice for so long, and am so tired of being taken advantage of (by -ahem- MEN) I'm switching teams. Oh and I'm skinny too, not by choice, I'm a nervous wreck!
